The Fault in our Stars
I read The Fault in our Stars this weekend. I started this book in January of this year and I stopped reading it. Teens with cancer, not to be mean, but I just knew this would not end well. I just couldn't bring myself to finish it. I knew this book would have depth to it like John Green novels do and I knew it would have sadness and love. So I read up to the part where Hazel Grace meets Augustus and then stopped.
I picked it up 5 months later and read it in 1 day. There was love and sadness and depth. But that is not why I inhaled this book in 1 day. REAL. Every moment and scene felt so real. Life is real and completely unfair most of the time but it is also beautiful and tender and strong. The Fault in our Stars brought that reality to every page I read. I felt the struggle to breathe as Hazel climbed those stairs to the Anne Frank Museum. Isaac's heartbreak and the cruelty of teenagers. A parents desperation to see your child live and treasure every moment.
We all need a dose of reality sometimes.
