Shadow and Bone Trilogy

I read the Grisha Trilogy this weekend.  I started with book 1 Shadow and Bone and I had finish the series! Shadow and Bone tells the story of 2 orphans, Alina and her best friend Mal. In the fantastically dark and menacing Russian setting these 2 have to confront who they are and who they thought they were.  Mystical powers in the form of the Darkling emerge that separate the two friends and leads to triumph and destruction.  Alina must learn to function with out Mal and her growing love for him.  Mal has to deal with allowing Alina to be taken away.  Magic, mystery and love - the ultimate good versus evil story.

Book 2  - Mal and Alina are reunited again but now Alina is connected to the Darkling in a way she never wanted to be.  As Alina's powers increase so does her connection to the Darkling while the rift between Mal spreads.  How can she explain to Mal how strong her powers are and how much she enjoys using them for good and bad?  Mal's skill as a tracker are tested and may lead to their victory or defeat.

In Book 2 I enjoyed getting a closer look at the dynamic between Alina and Mal. They have bond that is impossible to break but yet they still can't fully trust one another.  New allies and enemies bring out the best and worse in them.  I love Alina's strength in this book, though she tends to take it to the extreme.  She wants the best for those she loves and the people of Ravka.

Book 3 - Alina has pushed her powers to the limit and is suffering the consequences.  Will she really be able to defeat the Darkling without becoming like him?  Prince Nikolai wants Alina to be his future Queen and charming an handsome enough that he may be able to pull it off.  And Mal....

So sad to see this series end. Really came to love Alina and Mal's story.  I am sucker for a good fantasy book and this series delivered!
